During the February workshops the UCAN Go project used 2 surveys to collect feedback and data; a lot of the responses were as expected, but there were also a few surprises, which got us thinking. In the first survey participants were asked about symptoms and theatre experiences. Interestingly enough, the majority of participants with a Visual Impairment found it difficult to list their own symptoms unprompted, so it was lucky to provide a checklist. The survey discovered that light plays a major factor in the majority of problems people have with their vision. Many participants find light an issue although it affects us in different ways because every pair of eyes is unique. Two symptoms had a higher percentage than expected, squint at 38% and stripped lighting at 62%. Discoveries such as these confirms the project decision to research symptoms instead of the 10 most prevalent eye conditions.
